About
Why This Exists
Have you ever finished a book and thought, "What if it ended differently?" That's where Top Shelf Endings comes in. This is a space for exploring the roads not taken, the alternate paths our favorite characters could have walked, and the endings that live in our imaginations.
* The InspirationMy love for reimagined stories began with Stephenie Meyer's Life and Death, the gender-swapped retelling of Twilight. That book showed me how powerful it can be to revisit familiar narratives from new angles. It proved that the same story can feel completely different with just a few key changes.Life and Death wasn't just a retelling—it was permission to wonder "what if?" It reminded me that stories don't have to end where the author left them. They can continue in our hearts and minds, taking on new life through creative exploration.
* Why Alternative Endings MatterStories shape us. They give us hope, break our hearts, and help us understand ourselves and others. But sometimes, the ending we get isn't the ending we need. Sometimes we crave closure, redemption, or simply a different emotional journey.Alternative endings aren't about "fixing" the original—they're about honoring the emotional connection we have with these characters and worlds. They're about asking, "What if things had gone differently?" and exploring those possibilities with care and creativity. This site is a celebration of that creative freedom. It's a place where beloved stories can breathe new life, where characters can make different choices, and where readers can find the endings that resonate with their hearts.
* About the AuthorI'm a reader, writer, and storyteller who believes in the transformative power of fiction. When I'm not reimagining endings, I'm probably curled up with a book, wondering how the story could have gone differently. This site is my love letter to the stories that have shaped me and the endless possibilities they contain.
Our style
* Our ProcessWe believe in the raw power of the first draft. Our stories capture the immediate, visceral reaction to a narrative's conclusion, preserving the authentic emotion of the "what if" moment before it gets polished away. These unedited, heartfelt explorations allow the purest form of reader response to shine through.
* The Art of the What-If"Exploring the roads not taken in our favorite stories, one alternative choice at a time."
* What We DoWe create narrative extensions that pick up where the original left off, or diverge at critical junctures. These aren't rewrites; they are parallel universes where different choices lead to new destinations. We build upon established lore to uncover hidden possibilities within the text.
* Our PhilosophyEvery alternative ending is born from a place of deep respect for the original work. We don't seek to "fix" stories, but to honor them by spending more time in the worlds their creators built. Our reimagined endings are a tribute to the authors who made us care so deeply in the first place.
* Why Alternative Endings MatterWhen we invest hours of our lives and pieces of our hearts into characters, their journeys become our own. Alternative endings provide a space to process those emotional investments, explore lingering questions, and find the closure or continuation we crave as devoted readers.
* Our CommitmentWhile our drafts are raw and emotionally driven, we maintain high literary standards. We strive to capture the voice, tone, and atmosphere of the original works, ensuring a seamless transition into our reimagined narratives. We are committed to keeping the spirit of the characters intact.
* InspirationOur work is fueled by the countless storytellers who have shown us that a universe can always be expanded. From classic literature to modern epics, we draw inspiration from the boundless nature of human imagination and the enduring power of a well-told tale.
* Ready to turn the page?Dive into our collection of reimagined stories and discover the endings you never knew you needed. The next chapter is waiting for you.

Extras
We don't have much for this page yet. Meanwhile, there's some interesting information on the Announcements page here. This is going to be a catch-all spot for random and/or miscellaneous stuff. For example, book clubs? Should we start a book club? Hmmm? That's a good question. I suppose book clubs can be an online thing or an in person thing in your local area.
Announcements
--> Please, note we are currently writing new chapters for Life and Death. We will eventually be adding over 30 more chapters to the 10 we already have here. That's 40 chapters total. We'll likely continue to write even more chapters after that.--> After we write a bunch of chapters for Life and Death, the plan is to start writing extra chapters for the book Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. If you haven't read it yet, you should definitely read it. Because if you loved Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer then Fourth Wing is the next logical progression. For me, I was super sad and bummed out when Life and Death came to an end. It's the reason this site exists. However, I wish I had known about Fourth Wing when I had finished reading Life and Death the very first time. It would. Fourth Wing would have cured my "book hangover" or the sadness and feelings of loss when I finished Life and Death.

News
It seems that in this day and age brick-and-mortar public libraries are scrambling to find ways to re-invent themselves and keep themselves relevant. When I got my library card at the downtown library in Lewiston, ID in December of 2025, I was unaware of some of the offerings. I was shocked to learn a couple months later that the library lets people check out Chrome laptops for 2 weeks at a time. This is super neat because if a person doesn't have a cell phone or a computer they can use to access this website, TopShelfEndings.com and others, they could go pick up a laptop at their local library for two weeks at a time. I just wanted to mention this because if this is something that is available at one library, perhaps, it could be available at your local library? Here's an idea. If they aren't available, you could request the library to start up a program that offers laptops. -- Last Entry May 26, 2026

Random thought by the author (May 26, 2026): I had to look up or research the proper way to spell "Fan fiction." I wasn't sure if it's spelled fan fiction, fanfiction, or fan-fiction. What I gathered is this: In general, "fan fiction" is the proper or best way to spell it. Put another way, "fan fiction" is the most common and most accepted way to spell it.However, I gleamed, read, or noticed that among fans of "fan fiction," the word tends to be spelled without any spaces. So it's just "fanfiction" in the fan world. One nice thing about spelling it this way is it's easier to write. There's one less space. So, fans may use "fanfiction" more? I don't know. That's what I'm seeing online and everywhere I read.Apparently, spelling fanfiction with a hyphen is the least common and is seen more in academic settings and/or formal settings. Even then it appears to not be very popular. To me "fanfiction" as one word just looks messy. I feel like it's easier to read as 2 separate words. However, I like to use all different forms or ways you can spell it.In a whimsical, amusing, and funny way, using a hyphen seems like a compromise between "fan fiction" and "fanfiction." Words? Aw. Gee. Aren't they fun to think about if you really drill down? Me personally, I'm intrigued by linguistics or the study of words, the etymology of words, like where they came from and how they came to be.I used to be a "word snob." People would say, for example, Joshella and me went for a walk earlier." I'd think to myself and occasionally correct people when they'd say this. I'd be like, "Hey, it's Joshella and I went for a walk earlier. Not Joshella and "me.""Years later I learned that languages evolve and change and basically there is no right or wrong way to say anything, really. What is right and what is wrong or the right or wrong way to say something is what we say it is. What we as a society or group of people decide what the words are going to be.Plus, another element or factor is how often a word is used. How often a word is used makes it popular. If it gets used enough, it will eventually be accepted as a word or a new word. It took me a long time to realize this or learn this, but I get it now.It is quite freeing and liberating to use words like "wanna," "gonna," and "gotcha." I would have never used these words in the past because "it's not the correct way to say them." Again, it just feels pretty good to be liberated with one's speech. -- Comment made May 26, 2026.
